OPENING SIGNAL
Tanzania nears finalization of $42 billion liquefied natural gas deal

Tanzania is entering the final stage of negotiations with global energy majors Equinor and Shell to conclude a $42 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) development project aimed at positioning the country as East Africa's primary energy hub.

The mega-project will unlock over 47 trillion cubic feet of offshore natural gas reserves, supplying domestic power generation and international export markets.

To support its broader industrialization push, Dodoma is opening its domestic bond market to foreign institutional investors and targeting a total power generation capacity of 8,000 megawatts by 2030, with 75% derived from clean energy sources including gas, hydro, solar, and wind.
