North Korea border tensions escalate as military ties to Africa face scrutiny
|
|
Military friction on the Korean Peninsula has surged after Kim Yo Jong warned Pyongyang is prepared to "mercilessly eliminate" South Korean forces along the demilitarized zone if border provocations continue.
The escalation between South Korea (ranked 5th globally in military strength) and North Korea (ranked 31st) comes as security analysts at ISS Africa highlight concerns over ongoing defense and trade links between Pyongyang and several African states. UN Security Council resolutions grant member nations explicit authority to inspect and seize illicit North Korean cargo, but analysts warn that persistent diplomatic and military ties across the continent complicate global sanctions enforcement.

MEDITERRANEAN ENERGY & GEOPOLITICS
Egypt and Israel reject Libya–Turkey Mediterranean energy exploration pact
In a unified diplomatic stance, Egypt and Israel formally rejected eastern Libya’s parliamentary ratification of a controversial 2019 maritime demarcation agreement with Turkey. The joint opposition stems from competing claims over vast offshore natural gas and petroleum reserves across the eastern Mediterranean. While Ankara and eastern Libyan authorities aim to initiate joint exploratory drilling, regional allies Greece, Cyprus, Egypt, and Israel maintain the pact illegally infringes upon established exclusive economic zones.
THE AFRICA ANGLE: Energy analysts expect prolonged legal and diplomatic standoffs to delay offshore drilling investments along North African Mediterranean energy blocks.

Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads
Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:
After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.
The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.
“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”
Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.
