Zambia to reopen Tazama fuel pipeline to multiple suppliers in January

Zambia will delay reopening its main fuel-import pipeline to open access until January 2027, despite International Monetary Fund pressure for a faster timeline.
The 1,717-kilometre Tazama pipeline, connecting Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to Zambia's copper-producing heartland, currently remains under an exclusive supply agreement with Vitol Group. Initially introduced as a temporary emergency measure following global energy disruptions, the exclusive arrangement will give way to competitive bidding among multiple suppliers in January, allowing pre-qualified fuel importers to bid for capacity and supply diesel across the country.
